A community within the city of San Jose, the county seat of Santa Clara County in the San Francisco Bay area of Northern California, Evergreen is a district that lies in the city's southeastern portion. Its approximate boundary lines are Tully Road to the north, US Highway 101 to the west, San Felipe Road to the south and the East Foothills neighborhood on the east. The community is a quite diverse one, with posh, affluent neighborhoods as well as more affordable areas. Evergreen homes in the neighborhood's southeastern account for some of the highest-priced Evergreen real estate, with many multi-million-dollar homes, especially within the gated Silver Creek Valley Country Club community.

Evergreen is a diverse community with large populations of both Asian and Hispanic communities. It is largely suburban and is a desirable place to live for many of the professionals who work in San Jose and the surrounding cities here in the Silicon Valley. The Evergreen community, as a suburban hub, has a substantial amount of development, with several shopping strips and stores. On the community's eastern edge is Evergreen Valley College. It also has its own Evergreen Branch Library and is home to the St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Evergreen takes its name for the many oak trees that once covered the area in their greenery, and though many of the trees are gone the community still sits in a beautiful part of San Jose, in the rolling foothills, full of open spaces perfect for hiking, biking, running and other activities. There are many types of homes in Evergreen, from large, multi-million-dollar homes secluded from much of the surrounding area to more affordable, older homes, perfect for those just starting out. The average listing price for Evergreen homes is about $700,000, but the median sale price, particularly since real estate values have fallen over the past two years, is around $465,000.

Since Evergreen lies in San Jose, it is just minutes away from all the activities and amenities that the city has to offer. There are several hospitals in the city to provide medical services. Those living in the area will be zoned to schools in the San José Unified School District, though there are also quite a few private schools, both large and small, if parents prefer an alternative to public schooling. Besides Evergreen Valley College, the region is home to many other higher education institutions within an hour, with such noted schools as the University of California, Berkeley; the University of California, Santa Cruz; San José State University; San Francisco State University; California State University, East Bay; Santa Clara University and Stanford University. San Jose is home to nearly a dozen museums, including the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies, home to the largest Beethoven collection outside of Europe, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts on the West Coast, and the Tech Museum of Innovation. There are a number of local and county parks, including the Raging Waters water park and the large Almaden Quicksilver County Park.
